So Farm, So Good

With its bucolic setting overlooking the Rouge River Valley in Markham, Whittamore’s Your Farm in the City is one of the most unique outings anyone in Ajax likely takes over a calendar year. On its 230 acres, visitors are encouraged to “Pick Your Own,” and depending on the time of year, Mom, Dad and the kids will find themselves heading out to the farm field to personally “harvest” strawberries, raspberries, peas, beans, pumpkins and tomatoes, essentially whatever’s “in season.”

Located at the corner of Lakeridge and Taunton in Whitby (with another location at 775 Kingston in Ajax), Stroud Farms offers the best selection of fresh fruits and vegetables available within the GTA & Durham Region. Everything that’s grown on the farm is for sale – sweet corn, apples, pears, pumpkins, tomatoes and more.

If you’re looking for authentic farm fresh flavour in your pies, tarts and meats, head over to Hy-Hope Farm at 5450 Lakeridge Rd. in Ashburn. Their pies are baked using a homemade pie filling, mostly from fruit grown on their own farm. Their bread is made from stone ground flour and they also produce their own jams and preserves on-site. Open all year round, Hy-Hope Farm offers tobogganing in the winter.

Foragers Urban Farms is a collective of home owners and farmers who take unused, arable land and utilize it for eco-friendly bio-farming. Located at 709 Westney Road north in Ajax, Foragers offers a great selection of organically grown produce that’s free from pesticides and additives.

On its 230 acres, customers are encouraged to ‘pick-your-own’ right on the farm
